Art @ the Core: Building Community presents its culminating event, VOICES: MAPPING THE HOOD, a two-part artistic rendering of the stories of the people and the places that make up the sister communities of North Park and City Heights. Using art as the catalyst, our multi-media dance theatre production and our visual art installation will reflect our lived experiences, collective concerns, and community celebrations.

The Voices production, directed by Eveoke’s resident choreographer, Ericka Aisha Moore, with additional choreography by Yvonne Hernandez and transcenDANCE dancers, will combine dance with film, poetry (live spoken
word by Kendrick Dial), community videography, oral history, and visual art. Eveoke Dance Theatre Concert Company, Apprentice Company, Performing Group, Youth Performing Group, and transcenDANCE Youth Arts Project dancers will interlace dances, each based on a theme that resonated with the artists, which collectively represent the voices of people in North Park and City Heights.
Sunday performances, directed by Eveoke's Erika Malone and transcenDANCE's Cat Corral, are specifically designed as an interactive performance and workshop for youth and families where the audience can participate and reflect upon what they saw, giving their experience meaning, and putting their own voice to movement. Sunday performances will also feature poetry by transcenDANCE's Victoria Olango.

arts installation : May
17th - june 28th , 2009
The Voices installation will include photographic images, videos, oral histories, and visual art created during community gatherings throughout the last several months. Participants include; students, community members, classes from the New School of Architecture, and visual artists. Interactive arts events will enable members of the public to participate artistically in this community building installation. A component of the visual art installation is the Our Space/ Creative Exchange that everyone is invited to participate in. There will also be a community art installation in the lobby of the 10th Avenue Theatre during the dance theater production.
